Neri Receives Professional Honors

Andrew Neri, Resident Manager at Glenbrook Terrace in Southern California, was recently named Leasing Professional of the Year by the San Diego County Apartment Association.

Formerly employed by Con Am Management Company as a leasing agent, Neri came to EBMC last fall, where he quickly turned his leasing talents into management “magic,” according to Marlene McIntyre, Property Supervisor in the Santa Ana Office. “He has done a marvelous job at Glenbrook Terrace, a 164-unit conventional property,” Marlene says. “He has really turned that property around.”

Baseball is a Way of Life for this Family

For the Ayala’s, baseball is truly a family affair.
Kinda Ayala, Clerical Assistant at Vacaville Park Apartments, her husband, Tony, who is Site Maintenance Manager, and several brothers, sisters and brothers-in-law, all play on an EBMC-sponsored softball team.

Not only does the family play together, but they win, as well. The Vacaville Park Apartments team recently brought home a “huge” trophy for taking first place in the American Softball Association Coed League championship. This is the second year the team has taken first place.

Kinda manages the team and plays, too, both on this team and two others. Tony is on four teams, Kinda says, and when not playing together on the co-ed team, they are either watching their 10-year-old daughter play on a Little Giants team, or watching their four-year-old son play on a city-sponsored T-ball team. “Thankfully their schedules worked out really well,” Kinda notes, so there wasn’t much conflict. But all that play and practice time has them at the ball fields “at least five or six nights a week,” she adds, “but we just love it.”

The team’s championship trophy is currently on display in the complex office, which is located at 1424 Alamo Drive in Vacaville. The facility’s Resident Manager is Mary Edwards.

EBMC Employee earns U.S. Citizenship

Ilya Lyubarskiy, Maintenance Team Member at The Headlands in Marin County, officially became a citizen of the United States on June 19, 2002. He emigrated to the U.S. in 1994 from Uzbekistan. Ilya was honored for his accomplishment at the recent Northern California employee picnic, when Lori Burger, Vice President, Property Manager, introduced him to the gathering before awarding him with a special recognition.

Also in honor of Ilya's accomplishment, Henno Heitur, Site Manager at The Headlands, wrote an article for the homeowner association's newsletter, which is excerpted here.

"Ilya grew up in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, near Afghanistan, under the blanket of Soviet Communism. For more than 25 years he was an engineer and thermodynamic technician for a huge power station. "While a Soviet citizen, Ilyawas twice detained by the KGB for protesting the invasion of Czechoslovakia and Afghanistan." After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Henno said, Ilya feared for his family's safety so they emigrated to the U.S. "The expensive process exhausted his family's life savings. Because of his age and language challenges, he struggled to find suitable work."

In 1996, Ilya was offered a job at EBMC., working part-time work as a groundskeeper. He was promoted to a full-time position where, in addition to his groundskeeping duties, he was also working as an electrician, plumber, painter and carpenter at The Headlands.

"Among his many accomplishments," Henno's article continued, "is that he has almost single-handedly expanded and kept our firebreaks clear of brush over the past couple of years, which has substantially improved our ability to fend off future wildfires."

"Ilya is one of the most dedicated men I have ever had the pleasure of knowing and working with," Henno said. "Ilya represents the type of can-do immigrant from American history who helped to build this country into what it is today."
